Detecting Extraterrestrial Narrowband Signals from the Voyager 1 Spacecraft
This GNU Radio flowgraph processes recorded data from the Green Bank Telescope to display the narrowband telemetry signal from the Voyager 1 spacecraft. The flowgraph takes the raw data, filters it to isolate the narrowband signal, and outputs a frequency sink plot showing a distinct spike representing Voyager 1's telemetry transmission. Narrowband signals are of particular interest in SETI because natural sources typically emit broadband radiation, while a narrowband signal is a strong indicator of artificial origins. Detecting such signals is crucial in the search for potential extraterrestrial intelligence.
